8 Benefits of LED Lighting Your Home or Business Can't Afford to Miss!
LED lights are becoming an increasingly popular fixture in homes and businesses. If you're wondering why that is, click here to learn about 8 benefits of LED lighting you could benefit from!
When somebody mentions decorating, a lot of things come to mind, like paint, houseplants, and a trendy rug. LED lighting probably doesn't leap into your mind.
In the American mindset, LED lighting is for Christmas decorations and window advertisements, but not for home decor. They may tell you that the sixties ended a long time ago, and the fascination with colored lights went with it.
However, there are a lot of benefits of LED lighting, whether you're using it at home or for commercial purposes. What kind of benefits could a simple light offer in an era where different lighting options are everywhere?
Read on to find out.
1. Environmental Benefits of LED Lighting
One of the first things any advertisement for LED lights will tell you is how much better they are for the environment than our old standard of lighting, and it's true.
By 2012, LED lights were already more environmentally friendly than more traditional lights. Many people believe that they are improving rapidly.
Their estimates may have been right. New, more energy-efficient bulbs have developed since then and the price has dropped substantially.
2. Lifespan
It is well-known by now that LED lights tend to last longer, a lot longer in fact. If run for 8 hours per day, an LED light can last for seventeen years. Of course, the more you use the bulb, the lower its lifespan gets.
If this same LED bulb runs 24/7, it will lest fewer than 6 years. Still, non-stop light for six years is quite impressive.
3. Safer
LEDs are also safer than other kinds of light bulbs. This is partially because they are not usually made from glass, but plastic. Plastic is tougher to break than glass.
The plastic bulb may make an LED light less bright, but not enough to be noticeable.
Also, unlike other types of bulbs, LEDs do not contain mercury, which can be poisonous and can cause insanity if used in high doses. This is not to say that LED lights are completely risk-free.
They do put you at a slightly higher risk of cancer than someone who is not exposed to lighting would be. This pertains largely to blue light or red bulbs.
Even so, it isn't that much blue light. In fact, there's more in the sun than in your light bulb, so you're more likely to get cancer by going outside than by using an LED bulb.
The risk of red bulbs is just that, red bulbs. Buy another color and the risk goes away. Despite this, LEDs are much safer than other types of lights. Chemicals used in the lighting stay sealed inside the plastic bulb, so you're not likely to come into contact with them.
4. Temperature
LED lights differ in how temperature affects them compared to other bulbs. Most bulbs have to use more light to work in colder temperatures.
LED lights are different. It's not that they aren't affected by temperature changes, or even that they aren't affected as much.
What's unique about them is that they react to the temperature in the opposite way than other lights do. They become more energy efficient the colder it gets.
So, if you have a freezer to light or happen to live in Greenland and don't feel the need to keep your house warm (for some reason,) LED lights are right for you.
Plus, the bulbs themselves don't give off heat, so it's perfect if you need light and also happen to be the famous Batman villain, Mr. Freeze.
5. On and Off
Most types of light go through a bit of a warm-up period, where they become brighter over time after turning on. LEDs go to their brightest in the blink of an eye.
Another little-known fact about lights is that most types of bulbs can have their lifespans lowered if they are often turned on and off. LED lights are not affected by turning on and off, regardless of how often it happens.
6. Dimming
LED lights are also useful for their adaptability. Out of all the lights currently on the market, they are the easiest to dim and seem to do so quicker than others.
LED lights are less adaptable in the sense that they aren't compatible with dimmer systems made for other types of lights. However, given that LED lights are longer-lasting and that their dimmer systems tend to be cheaper to install, it's better to go with LED systems in the first place.
7. Colors and Clarity
There are a wide variety of colors to do when choosing an LED light, which can help set the mood for an occasion.
Perhaps the true advantage when it comes to color is how well LEDs operate in the dark. While any light can clear away the dark, most will give off a yellowish hue, making it feel like you're looking at the world through night vision goggles.
LED lights shine with more of a white color, which doesn't drown out the natural colors of the world, giving you a more natural view.
8. Recyclable
In addition to the other environmental benefits, these special lights also happen to be recyclable. When an LED light burns out, it's reusable.
LED Lights and Why We Love Them
There are several benefits of LED lighting, from low environmental impact to temperature resistance. LEDs have a lot to offer, and their future is getting brighter every day.
